The moulded Boston brace is a custom-made thoracolumbosacral orthosis (TLSO) used in the treatment of scoliosis, particularly idiopathic scoliosis in adolescents. It is designed to prevent further curvature of the spine during growth. Made from high-density thermoplastic, the brace is moulded to fit the patient’s torso and extends from below the chest to the pelvis.

The brace applies three-point pressure to the spine, helping to correct or halt the progression of the spinal curve. It is worn under clothing for 16–23 hours a day, depending on the physician’s recommendation. Openings and pads are strategically placed inside the brace to target specific curve patterns.

Wearing the Boston brace requires regular follow-up and adjustments to ensure it fits properly as the patient grows. Though not a cure, it is a non-surgical method proven effective in managing scoliosis and avoiding or delaying surgery in many cases.
